SMP can be implemented in three gradual steps, not just in one. It can look like your hair grows back after you have shaved it. This will make it less noticeable, and no one will question your decision to keep the buzz cut rather than letting all of your hair grow back.
Plan ahead
It can be difficult to make the switch from wearing a headpiece to shaving your head. You’re bound to be nervous, so planning your treatment will help you to cope with this change. It’s a good idea to take a break between your first and second sessions to relax, take stock of the situation and not be overwhelmed by worry.
Breathing Space
The adhesives used to hold the hairpiece will have become accustomed to your scalp and it will take some time for the skin to adjust. You should give your scalp some time to breathe before starting the SMP treatment. If you can, try to spend a few days without a wig at home or while on vacation before starting the SMP treatment. You can also switch from glue to tape to allow the skin to relax.
Skin recovery is possible
It is possible to develop a buildup of dead skin cells on your scalp after wearing a hairpiece for many years. Use a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin and reveal new skin. The skin will return to normal if you expose it to UV light or some sunlight. The skin will become paler if you have been wearing a hairpiece for an extended period of time. UV light can restore the normal color. Vitamin C will also give your skin a much-needed boost of vitality.
